Diabetes Prevention Week – 16 – 22 April

It’s estimated that over five million people in England are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In Southampton, in 2017, there were 12,954 people with diabetes, of which approximately 90% have type 2*. The number of people with diabetes in the city rises every day.

Even if you are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, it can still be prevented through losing weight, eating healthily and being more active. Find out more about Healthier You, the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

Bowel cancer screening kit

Bowel cancer screening could save your life, but you have to return the test!

Southampton doctors are raising awareness about the importance of screening for bowel cancer during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this April. 

Treatment for early signs of bowel cancer has been very effective. With more than 28,000 people in Southampton being eligible for this test, your local NHS is encouraging you to consider the potential benefits of returning your sample sooner, rather than later.
