Cancer is here every day but we can improve the outcomes with your help

This Saturday it is World Cancer Day and here in Southampton, the NHS is constantly working to reduce the number of instances of cancer within the city.

From the innovative research that takes place at the centres based here in Southampton, to the GP practices across the city, making referrals and treating new cancer patients every day, as well as the Macmillan nurses and NHS Cancer network, striving to find new and more effective ways to support prevention, increase survival rates and educate the local population about the benefits of screening – Cancer is never off the agenda.

Far from it. Cancer is here – everyday.

The number of people being diagnosed with cancer in Southampton, is higher than the average across England. Over the coming weeks and months, the NHS in Southampton will be engaging and raising awareness across the city about the need to improve these statistics.

Time to Talk Day - join the conversation about mental health

It's Time to Talk Day and we are joining the conversation about mental health.

Time to Talk Day is organised by Time to Change, who want to get more people talking openly about mental health and help end mental health discrimination.

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year, but many of us are too afraid to talk about it. Being open about mental health and ready to listen can make a positive difference to someone’s life.

Talking about mental health doesn’t need to be difficult. It can be as simple as making the time to have a cup of tea or go for a walk, and listening to someone talk about how they feel.

So why not take five to have a chat over a cuppa or at lunchtime tomorrow, and simply ask someone how their day is going?
