This year the theme of World Mental Health Day is mental health in the workplace.
Depression and anxiety disorders are common mental disorders that have an impact on our ability to work, and to work productively. Southampton Steps to Wellbeing is a free, confidential, NHS service for to people aged 18+ offering a range of treatments for people experiencing problems with low mood/depression, anxiety, stress or other common mental health problems.
Mental health matters to us in Southampton and we are committed to ensuring we have the right services in place to support people. In 2016 we ran a public consultation, Mental Health Matters, to gather local views on the future of mental health services in the city. We will continue to provide regular updates on the outcomes of the consultation and will be providing an update at our Healthy Communities event on the evening of 31 October. More information about the event is on our website.
As an employer, we are also proud to be a Mindful Employer which means we have signed the Charter for Employers who are Positive About Mental Health and are committed to being open about mental health. We want our staff to feel able to discuss mental health issues so that we can make sure you receive the right level of support within the workplace.
